We, as a staff, understood how vital it was to teach each and every one of our students how to read, and the SIPPS program seemed like our best bet. For me, the answer is simple, when you have teachers dedicated to their students and cognizant of the fact that literacy rates are tied to unemployment and incarceration rates, doing anything else is not an option. One of the biggest questions we get from visitors is “How did you get so much teacher buy in? How were you able to roll this out for the whole school?”. We have the highest STAR reading scores we have ever had due to this curriculum and the dedication of the entire staff. We have seen tremendous growth in our reading this year. SIPPS can be done on an individual basis, but it is much stronger if the entire staff is dedicated to using it. This amount of hyper-differentiation creates powerful change. These quick changes create curated small groups that allow students to be systematically taught phonics and sight words at their exact level. They decided to regroup and put all the students who passed the mastery test in the same group so they could continue to move on while the half that did not pass would be put together and relearn the content in order to master it. Both teachers felt a shift in their group, with half of their students excelling and the other half struggling. For example, there were two groups placed within the same 10 lessons. Massive regroupings happen every couple months, however smaller regroupings can occur between two teachers frequently. This mastery test data is used to help regroup students. Every 10 lessons, students take a mastery test, which assesses their knowledge on the content of the previous 10 lessons. Then, students were divided based on screener result and behavior. That flexibility allowed us to fine-tune our differentiation down to whether a student was struggling with sight words or sounds within the same series of lessons.Īt the beginning of the school year, all students were given the SIPPS screener, which would place them within a 10 lesson range. However, by combining both first and second grade, suddenly we have 6 teachers for 12 small groups. ![]() There simply wouldn’t be enough time to differentiate beyond that. If a teacher were to teach SIPPS in just their classroom, they would be limited to roughly two small groups. I quickly learned that SIPPS is best used as differentiated instruction across multiple grade levels. The next day we had to sit in multi-grade level bands, with first and second grade seated together. That is what SIPPS is: an all-encompassing curriculum that helps support students throughout every part of their day. As I was mapping out my wall space, I realized that this curriculum was not only for thirty minutes every day but would be on display at all times. We had been told to find a dedicated space on our walls just for SIPPS materials. For once, I felt like we had found a curriculum that would help our students learn how to read.Īfter the training, we were given our SIPPS binders and were sent to set up our classrooms. It solidified the fact that learning how to read is challenging, but can be done systematically and in thirty minutes. The lesson was fast paced, engaging, and challenging. She created a fake language and taught us fake sounds, then had us read a story. ![]() ![]() Just as I started to lose faith in her judgment, she proceeded to teach a demo lesson. I gawked when she said all these components were to be taught in a thirty-minute time span. The students go through oral phoneme manipulation, letter sounds, a decodable word list, sight words, reading a story, and writing. Our previous curriculum had little to no instruction on how to guide students through phonics.Īs my literacy coach continued the training, she reviewed each component of the lesson. This is what I had been searching for throughout my career as I had been flailing trying to figure out how to teach first graders how to read. I couldn’t believe what I was hearing, a curriculum purely dedicated to teaching phonics. SIPPS is an acronym that stands for Systematic Instruction in Phonological Awareness, Phonics, and Sight Words. As my literacy coach explained what SIPPS was, my interest was piqued by just the name alone. I had heard through the grapevine that this would be our new foundational skills curriculum. She was leading a training on a new phonics curriculum called SIPPS. In 2021, I entered our beginning of year staff training and met our new literacy coach. ![]() 4/11/2024 0 Comments Led christmas lights projector![]() While LEDs and some of the options listed here use far less energy than lights of years gone by, bedecking your house in a plethora of lights will translate into higher energy consumption. Lasers always come in red, green, blue, and other bright colors, so keep this in mind when planning your holiday display. ![]() The one thing lasers can’t do, however, is make white light. You can also purchase laser lights with programmed patterns and a variety of twinkly designs, eliminating the need for other decorations. Not only are these very easy to install, because you simply stab them into the ground and point them at your house, but they only use approximately 0.005 watts per hour. ![]() How convenient to have these lights on the house ready to go-we can just plug them in, right? Unfortunately, each of those bulbs uses around 6 watts every hour, which means my 100-light string may be using 600 watts per hour! Our laziness is not only costing us money, it has big energy costs as well.īesides LED Christmas lights and automatic timers, there are new alternatives to string lights that are even better for outdoor use. What is Christmas without beautiful holiday lights brightening up the neighborhood? I thought that the old style, large-bulb outdoor Christmas lights don’t exist anymore – but, wait, they do?! Not only are they surprisingly still available in stores, the house I live in came with these lights pre-installed and we have yet to take them down. This year we’re looking at a programmable timer to make sure our tree is only on when we are around to enjoy it.Īlternatives for Your House: Outdoor Lasers and LED Projections At our house we previously asked a child to crawl under the tree and unplug it every time we left the house or went to bed, but we often forgot. By my calculations, my tree of 400 watts per hour is now using only 80 watts instead!Īnother way to save energy is to keep your tree on a timer. LEDs are also cool to the touch, which will help prevent live trees from drying out as quickly, and are less of a fire hazard. ![]() It’s important to note that the mini lights are the ones that look like incandescent bulbs-not all LED light strings are created equally. They also last for 30,000 to 50,000 hours and cost almost the same as incandescent lights in many places. Thank goodness there are now warm white mini-LEDs that mimic the light of a traditional bulb while using 80%-90% less energy. I initially resisted the switchover to LED lights because they didn’t have the same bright twinkle that traditional lights have, and I’m not a fan of colorful lights. If your yard isn't that wide from the house to the street, or you have trees or bushes that would block the projector when placed that far away, then you'll need more than one unit. The simplest way to reduce your tree’s energy consumption is to make sure you are using LED Christmas lights. If the front of your house is 3,296 square feet, though, you would need to place the light 40 feet away from your house. If you have a large house and a super small front yard, you may not have enough room to set the unit away from your house.įor example, the Star Shower Motion Laser Light covers 206 square feet when placed 10 feet away from a house. Second, remember that with many laser units, the farther back you put the unit, the wider the light display is. If you can't find one that covers as many feet as you need, you may want to spring for two units. ![]() For example, if you just want to light the garage door, there's no need to buy a bigger unit designed to cover the entire front of a house. Then, determine how many square feet on your home's exterior you want to cover with light. Most homes will just need one projector for each side of the house they want to light up, but there are some factors that may require you to purchase more.įirst, check how much square footage the projection covers. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() luckily some software were developed to substitute windows theme modding and the best of them currently available and with the highest user base is Rainmeter. Although a 4-factor Dysphoria model offers a better overall account of clustering patterns (relative to alternate models), alongside acceptable sensitivity and specificity for detecting clinical impairment, it also falls short of being an adequate model in this younger age group. These CFA results do not support the symptom clusters proposed within the DSM-5 for PTSD-6Y.
